Baroque, exotic necklace in shades of green, using sea glass and vintage and modern beads. I created this piece directly onto the silver wire torc which supports it. The design is inspired by the rock pools on my local beach, fronds of floating weed and dancing light over pebbles and shells. The central feature is a fragment of pale green sea glass, smoothed and tumbled by the sea for years. The mount surrounding it is made by hand stitching beads around the glass until it is firmly held in place, the piece is then backed with fine white leather. A fabric of tiny seed beads creates the shape of the necklace, handwoven using brick stitch attached to the mount. The shape is eccentric and deliberately off centre, with strands of seed beads suspended from it, ending in a variety of decorative beads and pendants including vintage fresh water pearls. The beadwork is woven around a 1.5mm sterling silver wire torc, measuring approximately 16" (42cm). A very unusual piece, romantic and organic.
