How to rock the long skirt trend
It’s that time of year again. Summer is just around the corner and the temperatures have been steadily creeping up. Finally, it’s time to kiss goodbye to stuffy jumpers and jeans and say hello to the airy coolness of dresses, skirts and cut-outs.
Miniskirts are back with a vengeance this year, with a low waist and a high hem proving particularly popular. For when you want something that offers a bit more cover, though, the maxi skirt is also soaring in popularity.
We’ve put together a few tips to help you look and feel your best when following the long skirt trend this spring and summer.

Figure hugging
A tube skirt can be extremely versatile and work with multiple body types. You’ll have structure and shape on the bottom and can contrast it with a loose-fitting top and some gladiator sandals for a cool but casual look.
Find a skirt that hugs your figure and pair it with an oversized top to brilliantly enhance the flow of your outfit. And you can even get away with some low-profile trainers to keep it comfy.
Alternatively, add a bomber jack and some black boots for a chic aesthetic on those cooler days.
Silhouette shaping
Rather than having something hug your figure, go the other way with a long A-line skirt. The base provides you with a magnificent silhouette and you can choose from a range of styles including circular, pleated, fishtail and many more.
You’ll have great fun twirling in a circular maxi skirt. And if you combine it with a slimline belt to really accentuate your waist and finish the outfit with a pair of biker boots, you’ll have a truly impactful ensemble.
A pleated maxi skirt can provide a great foundation to build a business-worthy outfit too. Whether you want to look professional at a convention or in an interview, it fits the bill for being fashionable and smart.
Heading out
For something a bit more daring and sensual – while also offering a chance to show off your favourite boots – consider a slit skirt.
The slit could be below the knee or as high as your hip, it depends on whether you’re after something formal, smart-casual or comfortable. If you choose a maxi skirt with buttons, you’ll have the versatility of being able to decide exactly how high you want it depending on the day.
If you opt for a high slit, incorporate some high-heeled ankle boots and a belt for something that will be perfectly at home in any cocktail bar.
